Cases and claims
In March, the owner purchased the Pet CEO Plan® for Takoyaki, a 1-year-old short-haired cat.
In September, Takoyakil experienced hair loss, redness, and other issues. The owner took Takoyakil to a veterinarian within the OneDegree network for consultation, and it was ultimately diagnosed with atopic dermatitis.
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic condition that involves various expenses for diagnosis, treatment, laboratory tests, and medication. During the policy period, the owner spent a total of HK$30,000.
Fortunately, the owner had purchased Pet CEO Plan® for Takoyaki, which allows for a maximum claim of 90% for visits to network clinics. As a result, the owner only needed to bear:
In August, the owner purchased the Pet CEO Plan® for Pumpkin, a 3-year-old Shiba Inu.
In February, Pumpkin continuously vomited and showed a loss of appetite due to ingesting a foreign object (a sock). The owner took Pumpkin to an emergency veterinary clinic, where the veterinarian immediately conducted X-rays and other examinations. It was determined that Pumpkin had an intestinal obstruction and required surgery.
Including laboratory fees, X-rays, consultation fees, medication, hospitalization costs, and surgical expenses, along with follow-up consultation fees, the medical expenses for Pumpkin's intestinal obstruction amounted to HKD62,000.
Due to Pumpkin's coverage under the Pet CEO Plan® and the ability to claim up to 90% when visiting network clinic, the owner only needed to bear:
The owner started purchasing the Pet CEO Plan® for Miumiu, a British Shorthair cat, 3 years ago.
After 3 years, Miumiu developed swelling and discharge in the breast tissue, requiring treatment at the veterinary clinic. After undergoing X-rays and tissue biopsy examinations, it was determined that Miumiu had been diagnosed with breast cancer due to not being spayed. She needed to undergo surgery for tumor removal and receive chemotherapy.
The total medical expenses for Miumiu (including surgery and hospitalization costs, among others) amounted to HK$95,500. Since Miumiu received treatment from our network clinic, the pet owner can claim up to 90% of the expenses. Therefore, the owner only needs to bear HKD9,550.
Additionally, Miumiu is eligible for a cancer cash benefit of up to HKD10,000, allowing the pet owner to freely arrange how to support Miumiu through this difficult time.

Frequently asked questions
What are network clinics and non-network clinics?
You see this a lot in human medical insurance too, Pet CEO Plan® Policyholders can choose to bring their pets to any registered vet that is part of OneDegree's vet network, then the max reimbursement is 90% of eligible expenses. If they visit a non-network clinic, the reimbursement rate is up to 70%. Check out our vet network.
For all new policies that are issued from 1 December 2022, if the insured pet's age is between 13 weeks to 11 months at enrollment, the 50% Reimbursement Rate (applicable to all HK registered vets) will be applied throughout the whole policy year.
Any limitation for pets to enroll with Pet CEO Plan®?
Pets from 13 weeks to 11 years old of any breed are eligible to apply for a policy, and no microchip number / proof is required upon application.
Can I file a pet's claim instantly after policy start date?
To make sure all pets obtain fair protection, most insurers setup a waiting period.
Pet CEO Plan® also does this to prevent pet owners from buying policies after their pets get sick or injured and making claims for existing conditions. There is a 28-day waiting period from the Policy Start Date before you can start making claims. For policies that are effective on or before 12 Jan 2022, a 180-day waiting period will be posed for cancer, orthopedic conditions, chronic renal disease and hereditary conditions;
For policies that are effective from 29 May 2024 and onwards, only cancer and supplementary Critical illness cash benefits (if applicable) will be imposed a 180-day waiting period.
Can I enroll my pet if he/she has a diagnosed medical condition?
Any pet that meets the eligibility requirements can apply for a policy. However, an illness or a condition that is diagnosed before your policy start date or during waiting periods, which also listed on our policy wordings that belongs to pre-existing conditions, that means you won’t be able to claim vet expenses related to that condition, but accidents or other health problems that occur after the policy takes effect will be covered. To ensure your pet can get the most comprehensive health protection, we encourage pet owners to insure their pets as early as possible.
Will my premium increase when I renew my pet’s policy?
It's possible that the premium may be adjusted or remain unchanged* when it's time to renew your policy. Factors we consider for pricing adjustments including but not limited to:
- Collective claim experience in the preceding years by Hong Kong pet owners
- Your pet’s age at renewal#
- Average increase of the veterinary surgeon charges
As the exact renewal premium will be calculated based on the factors stated above, we therefore cannot provide preview on renewal premium beforehand. Please rest assured that if there’s any adjustment, we will indicate the renewal premium 30 days before the policy renewal. If you prefer not to renew the policy, you may stop the auto-renewal function of the policy through our online system upon receiving the renewal notice. If you do not stop such function, the policy will be automatically renewed so that your pet’s protection will not be disrupted.
